About LRH-SACA

Established in 1964, The Loyola Retreat House – Spiritual and Arts Center – Angono is now open for retreats, events and Art Gallery visits

About us

The Loyola Retreat House is located on top of Nieves Hills with vistas of Laguna de Bay and the surrounding hills. The building complex was designed by Felipe Mendoza, occupied a land area of 7 hectares donated by Don Mariano J. Santos.

Designed by Fr. Rene Javellana of the Society of Jesus, the logo depicts a merge of local heritage and Jesuit tradition. An open book showcasing the monogram of Jesus represents the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. This sits against a backdrop of stylized mountains and water, reflecting the beauty of Laguna de Bay and the nearby Sierra Madre range.

The lower part features the Loyola family coat of arms, with a wolf and pot reimagined in the style of the Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs, the oldest artwork in the Philippines. Read more

Our History

The last resident Jesuit in Loyola Retreat House Angono was Fr. Ray Lorredo, SJ. After he moved to the Jesuit Infirmary, the Hijas de Jesus, a Spanish-based women’s congregation built on Ignatian Spirituality, took charge of the retreat house from 1986 to 2006. Under them, a chapel was built in 1996.

From 2007, a local religious congregation of men, the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross, started to manage the retreat house following a Memorandum of Agreement with the Jesuit Philippine Province. The MOA expired in September 2021, but was extended until March 2022.

In August 2022, renovations on the Loyola Retreat House began. Initial studies showed that LRH Angono had the potential to match the renovations in Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House in Baguio (2017 to 2019) and the Jesuit Retreat House – Cebu Center for Ignatian Spirituality (2019 to 2021). Fr. Jose V. C. Quilongquilong, SJ and Fr. Rene Javellana, SJ supervised the renovations of these retreat centers.

On October 23, 2022, His Excellency Most Rev. Ruperto C. Santos, D. D., Bishop of Antipolo, presided at the Rededication and Blessing of the Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Arts Center, Angono. He was assisted by Rev. Primitivo Viray, Jr., SJ with the active participation of retreat ministry collaborators, Jesuits, benefactors, staff and local authorities.

Funding for the renovations was made possible through the generosity of the LH Foundation and the Liu Family in honor of the Founder, Dame Norma H. Liu, and other generous benefactors also contributed to the
improvement of facilities and the renovation of other parts of the property.
