The Loyola Retreat House – Spirituality and Arts Center – Angono (LRH-SACA) in Rizal recently hosted Margaux Salcedo’s retreat, which she eloquently detailed in her article, “We Came, We Saw, We Ate (A Pause in Silence).” Despite initial doubts about embracing silence, Margaux found the atmosphere at the retreat house to be profoundly transformative. Guided by Fr. Primitivo Viray Jr. SJ, her retreat was punctuated by moments of deep introspection during reflective walks through the Laudato Si Gardens and the Chapel of the Risen Lord.
As a food critic for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Margaux also shared her delightful culinary experiences. She recounted, “We had a lovely lunch of nilagang baka, a merienda of palabok with calamares and native puto, and Angono’s famous itik (duck) for dinner. Chef Jessie was smiling cheek to cheek because it was an enormous treat for her to not be cooking for once.”
Margaux discovered profound personal insights and emotional connections, especially while contemplating the message of “Come and see.” She emphasized that Christ resides within each heart. In closing, she wholeheartedly recommended her readers to also “come and see,” inviting them to experience the same sense of renewal and revitalization.
